Court documents

There are several types of court documents, for example:

  • Judicial decree: it is a resolution issued by a judge or court to resolve secondary issues related to a dispute that arise during the court procedure.
  • Lawsuit, complaint, criminal charge: these are those writings whose purpose is to initiate a legal action, either through a civil procedure (lawsuit), criminal (complaint) or a simple communication (criminal charge) about the alleged irregularity, illegality, crime or offence committed by a third party.
  • Judgement: it is the final resolution of the judge or court that puts an end to a litigation, after having considered the allegations of the parties, the evidence and the documents of the procedure, whether civil or criminal. In the civil sphere, the judge grants or not what is requested in the lawsuit. In criminal law, the judge acquits or convicts the accused, and in the latter case imposes the corresponding sentence.
  • Judicial appeal: it is the means by which the modification, revocation or invalidation of a judicial resolution can be obtained. For example, you can lodge an appeal with the aim of having a higher court challenge a decision of a lower hierarchy court or a cassation appeal that seeks the annulment of a judicial sentence pronounced as a result of an incorrect interpretation or application of the law.
